General process to hire an IAESTE intern

Hiring an IAESTE intern for your business is easy. Tell us what you need and we’ll use our network of more than 70 countries to find you the best candidate that fits your requirements. Whether it’s short or long term, we can help you find who you want, when you want.

Internship Elements

We try to keep the process of hiring an IAESTE intern as simple as possible. Here you can find the information you will need to provide in order for us to find you the perfect intern from our network of more than 80 countries.

Employer profile

Employer profile

You will need to provide us with basic details about your company. These include your area of business, the location where the intern will work, how many employees you have, the working hours, etc. You may also want to include a company brochure if you have one.

Study field

Study field

The employer can clearly define what kind of student is needed, from which general discipline, or even what should be his field of study. IAESTE predominantly works with students in STEM fields, but we can also source students from other disciplines if required.

Study level

Study level

Depending on the work available and your expectations, you can request interns to have a particular level of study. This can range from students at the beginning of their studies, right through to recent graduates. Our goal is to provide you with an intern with the right skill and experience level to bring to your company.

Languages

Languages

The official working language of IAESTE is English, so all our interns have English language skills, but if you require additional languages, all you need to do is let us know and we will do our best to find the right candidate that has the language skills you require.

Additional requirements

Additional requirements

Your company might require particular skills or experience beyond the right study field or level. If that’s the case, all you need to do is let us know and we’ll look within our vast network to find someone with those skills for you.

Job description

Job description

We ask that you provide us with as much detail as possible about the work the intern will be doing in the form of a work description. This ensures not only that we can find you the right intern, but also that the intern understands what is expected of them.

Period

Period

IAESTE internships can be anywhere from six weeks to twelve months. This range ensures that you can find an intern for whatever long or short term project you have in mind.

Salary

Salary

As an employer, you pay the interns a reasonable monthly wage. In order to obtain a residence and work permit, the minimum wage accepted by the authorities is CHF 2,000. This can vary and be higher depending on cantonal differences and study level. We will be happy to advise you on this.

We recommend a minimum wage of CHF 2,300 per month in order to cover the current considerable increase in living costs.

Accommodation

Accommodation

In order to facilitate our student’s integration and ensure a timely start to their placment, it is an IAESTE standard that all interns have accommodation organised for their arrival. Accommodation can be arranged by employers directly or you can take advantage of our accommodation service.

Service fees

IAESTE charges a fee for the successful placement of an intern, except public institutions and non-profit organizations. The fee is charged, once you accept the suggested candidate. The costs are as follows:

no placement
CHF 100.– (membership fee national commitee NC)
0 – 4 month internship
CHF 500.– plus VAT (membership fee NC included)
5 – 12 month internship
CHF 950.– plus VAT (membership fee NC included)

Additional costs

Supplement visa/permit fees: If a visa/work permit is required, Swiss authorities will charge the employer fees ranging up to CHF 500.–.

Accommodation service: IAESTE local committee volunteers offer an optional accommodation and pick-up service for CHF 400.–. They will find a suitable accommodation option for your intern and pick them up upon arrival. This fee covers their travel expenses and subsidizes various activities they organise for the interns throughout the year (weekend excursions, networking events and more).

Fairness clause (applicable as of January 1st 2023): We are always happy if an internship is successful to the extent that our employers wish to offer a permanent position to our candidate after their placement. As a recognised recruitment agency by SECO, IAESTE will in this case invoice an additional recruitment fee of 2000 CHF. This is applicable in the event of fulltime employment of an IAESTE student within 2 years after the end of their IAESTE internship.

We count on our employers’ goodwill to inform us of such cases. Our interns are also informed to advise of in case of fulltime employment.
