Arrival in Switzerland

You can enter Switzerland either by airplane, train, bus or car. There are three international airports: Basel-Mulhouse, Geneva and Zurich-Kloten. When planning your journey, please consider the following:

  • in which part of Switzerland will you be working and which airport is nearest
  • who is organising your accommodation: IAESTE or the employer (this information can be found on the form O)
  • if someone will pick you up upon arrival or if you have to find the way yourself
  • do not arrive during weekends, late in the evening or on bank holidays if possible

Furthermore, please consider:

  • if you change your travel plans, please inform IAESTE Switzerland, as well as your employer or your LC tutor immediately
  • note down the phone number of your contact person or the LC tutor in case of need
  • within 14 days after your arrival in Switzerland you must register at the local authorities. More information can be found in the Visa section

Your room is organised by the employer

Please clarify with your supervisor or contact person directly to determine if someone will pick you up upon arrival. In case you have to find the way on your own, ask your employer for a location plan. Do not forget to arrange a time and place to meet with the person who is handing over your room keys to you.

Your room is organised by IAESTE

A member of the local committee will meet you either at the airport or at an arranged meeting point upon your arrival. Your tutor will get in contact with you before you come to Switzerland and inform you about accommodation and any other important issues.
