Interlaken is a beautiful city in the heart of the Swiss Alps, situated between the Lakes of Thun and Brienz and at the foot of the famous trio of peaks: the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau. And it is one of the most famous centers for adventure sports in Switzerland.

Surrounded by this landscape, we will enjoy a descent in the Lütschine river. Better to be prepared for a great amount of adrenaline! You can’t simply come to Switzerland and don’t experience the Alps as its best. After rafting, we will gather around for apresraft, where we will enjoy the lake Brienz and the breathtaking views. Later in the afternoon we will organize some games to continue having fun. And for dinner, a lavish BBQ will be waiting for us at the tent village along with some wine and beer.

IAESTE Eiger excursion 2016, Alejandro Valverde

On Sunday, we will do a scenic hike in the Lauterbrunnen valley, famous for its 72 waterfalls, the most famous being the Staubbach Falls. We will start with a relaxing walk along the paved path from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg leading through numerous waterfalls gushing down from the vertical cliff faces. Depending on your hiking skills and your outfit/footwear you can choose either to finish the hike there or continue hiking up towards Grimelwald and Mürrer (cable cars are also available at the Stechelberg).

Please note

  • Important remarks about rafting: Rafting is an adventure sport, and a wild river is not harmless: You must be able to swim and be in normal health-condition. Non-swimmers are not allowed to participate in the rafting. Alcohol before and during the rafting is strictly forbidden. Before the raft you get introduced to the techniques of controlling the boat, and each boat is lead by an experienced rafter. A neoprene-wetsuit, a helmet, neoprene shoes and a life jacket protect you. If you wear glasses, we recommend you to fix them with a rubber band as they can easily fall off.
  • Insurance: IAESTE Switzerland is not responsible for any damage or accident! IAESTE Switzerland and IAESTE Local Committees Zurich, Basel, Bern and Lausanne do not provide any kind of insurance coverage for the river rafting on Saturday and for the hiking on Sunday. Participating on the weekend means participating at one’s own risk. Make sure that you are well insured (medical, accidental & liability insurance!)
