IAESTE Ballenberg & Aareschlucht Weekend

IAESTE LC Basel invites you to join the first Ballenberg & Aareschlucht Weekend ever! We are going to visit the Ballenberg open-air museum with its more than 100 century-old buildings, farmyard animals, gardens and fields. Demonstrations and special events further show the rural life of past days.

We will spend the night and have a barbeque at the youth hostel Brienz (JH Brienz) which is located at the lake of Brienz, close to Interlaken in the middle of the Berner Oberland.

On Sunday we invite you to a walk through the Aareschlucht (the Aare gorge). The gorge is 1.4 kilometres long and up to 180 metres deep. For more than 100 years, the gorge is accessible to visitors by a system of safe paths and tunnels that run through it. After the walk we'll take the train to Interlaken where you can visit the city or one of the many beaches at the lake - as you wish!

For the barbeque on Saturday evening, the breakfast on Sunday and even the lunch on Sunday you don't have to care because we have already organized everything for you :)

Program

Saturday, May 22

  • Arrival at Brienz Bahnhof at 10.24 AM
  • Drop off luggage at JH Brienz
  • Take the bus to visit the Ballenberg museum
  • Barbeque at JH Brienz

Sunday, May 23

  • Breakfast at JH Brienz
  • Visit the Aareschlucht by train and have lunch there
  • Take the train to go to Interlaken for visiting the city or just spend your time at the beach, this is open-end you can leave whenever you want to

Participation fees

You have to buy the tickets to get to Brienz as well as the return by yourselves. Fabienne und me will stay in Interlaken at least until 7 PM to wait for the Gleis 7 train.

  • With SBB General Abonnement (GA): 60 CHF
  • With SBB half-fare (1/2) and Gleis 7: 75 CHF
  • With SBB half-fare (1/2) but no Gleis 7: 75 CHF
  • Without SBB half-fare (1/2): 90 CHF

If you do not yet have a SBB half-fare card, we recommend you buying one! Check the SBB website!

A surcharge of 25 CHF will apply for participants who are not affiliated with IAESTE or its partner organisations.

The money will be collected at the start of the weekend . Only cash is accepted! :-)

Included in the participation fee

  • Accomodation (including breakfast) at JH Brienz
  • Barbeque on Saturday evening and lunchbox forSunday
  • The ticket for the Ballenberg museum and the Aareschlucht
  • All train and bus rides connecting the places we're going to visit

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your registration
  • less than 12 hours before the start of the event (that is, 10:00 AM, May 22), you pay the entire participation fee
  • 12-24 hours before the start of the event, you pay 75% of the participation fee
  • 24-48 hours before the start of the event, you pay 50% of the participation fee
  • after confirming but before 48 hours before the start of the event, you pay 25% of the participation fee

Checklist - Remember to Bring

  • Cash for paying the participation fee
  • A good mood and maybe games for the barbeque!
  • Swimming things (trunks, towels..) for Interlaken

On Sunday will take the luggage with us to visit the Aareschlucht and Interlaken so don't bring to much.

Meeting point and train connections

  • The meeting point for people coming from Basel is the meeting point at SBB, 07:45
  • For all the others it is 10:22 at Brienz, but already try to get together in the train from Interlaken Ost to Brienz!

Registration

The maximum number of participants allowed for this event is 20 (including organizers and helpers) and the registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. If your registration is not among the first 20, it will be put on the waiting list.
