The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is the largest national research institute and is the only one of its kind in Switzerland. In 2008 it was celebrating its 20th birthday (after the fusion of the former Institutes of Nuclear Research and the Institute for Reactor Research). Since then it became a international importance leading in the fields of fundamental research through medical, energy or material research up to space technology in projects together with NASA or ESA.
The PSI is situated in Villigen (canton of Aargau) less than an hour away from Zurich. It employes 1300 people and another few hundred temporary researchers from all over the world. It develops and operates complex research installations as for example several giant partical accelerators. The range of application is big why the PSI calls itselfs rightly a „multi-disciplinary research center“
IAESTE invites you for a tour through the „PSI forum“ which is the visitor center of the PSI. We will also get the possibility to step into the PSI's most popular accelerator - the Swiss Light Source (SLS).
If you need more information and details about the PSI you may find it on the PSI webpage or visit the webpage of the PSI Forum
