IAESTE Easy Hiking Weekend

Are you someone who likes hiking, beautiful mountain views, breathtaking scenery… Would you like to try Europe’s longest Toboggan run… Are you interested in winding up an active weekend relaxing in some thermal baths?

Welcome to the Easy Hiking Weekend…
Program
Our weekend adventure will begin in the canton of Graubünden, in Lenzerheide, with a hike in the beautiful mountainous area. This “Alpine Jewel” offers numerous hikes surrounded by lakes, trees, and spectacular panoramas.
We will stay in Churwalden overnight, and of course engage in the evening festivities downtown.
Sunday we won’t just walk…we will also ride toboggans! After a hike we will find ourselves at the top of Pradaschier…Europe’s longest Toboggan run. With 31 bends and a difference in altitude of 480 metres..it’s sure to be a lot of fun!
We will end the weekend with a visit to Alvaneu to enjoy the famous thermal baths, with several pools inside and outside for extreme muscle relaxation.
Saturday, September 13
- Train at 8:37 to Churwalden (Zurich main station meeting point at 8:15, or for those out of town, meet us directly in Churwalden at 10:15)
- Arriving in Churwalden at 10:15, drop luggage
- Bus to Lenzerheide, hike, hike, hike!
- Bus back to Churwalden around 17:00
- Prepare and have Dinner
- Lenzerheide by Night!
Sunday, September 14
- Wake up, breakfast at 8:30
- Hike to Pradaschier
- Toboggan ride down the mountain!
- Bus ride to Alvaneu
- Relax in the thermal baths
Accommodation
What could be better than having an entire house to ourselves? Just five minutes from the Churwalden bus stop, equipped with all the luxurious amenities... we welcome you to our accommodation...”Pradotel”.
Participation fees
Please note that you have to buy your own ticket from your home town to Churwalden. For participants with Gleis 7, the return trip from comes for free from Filisur.
- With SBB General Abonnement (GA): 55 CHF
- With SBB half-fare (1/2) and Gleis 7: 65 CHF
- With SBB half-fare (1/2) but no Gleis 7: 65 CHF
- Without SBB half-fare (1/2): 80 CHF
If you do not yet have a SBB half-fare card, we recommend you buying one! Check the SBB website!
A surcharge of 10 CHF will apply for participants who are not affiliated with IAESTE or its partner organisations.
The money will be collected at the start of the weekend. Only cash is accepted! :-)
Included in the participation fee
- Bus transportation in Lenzerheide during the weekend
- Dinner on Saturday
- Accommodation on Saturday night

- Fee for Pradaschier Toboggan run

Not included in the participation fee
- Train ride from your home town to Churwalden on Saturday morning and back from Alvaneu to your home on Sunday
Cancellation Policy
If you cancel your registration
- less than 12 hours before the start of the event (that is, 10:00 AM, September 13th), you pay the entire participation fee
- 12-24 hours before the start of the event, you pay 75% of the participation fee
- 24-48 hours before the start of the event, you pay 50% of the participation fee
- 48-72 hours before the start of the event, you pay 25% of the participation fee
Checklist - Remember to Bring
- Train ticket from Zurich to Churwalden
- Lunch for Saturday
- In case of rainy weather, warm and waterproof clothes for the hike
- Hiking shoes
- Small bag for hiking
- Sunscreen (depending on the weather)
- Bottle of water for hiking (to be refilled on sunday morning)
- Sleeping bag
- Money for a beer or two in Lenzerheide
- Bathing suit and towel for swimming
Meeting point and train connections
- People from Basel can stay in the train until Chur
- People from Zurich meet at the main station meeting point at 8:15
- Others can meet us directly in Churwalden at 10:15

SPECIAL NOTES:
Please note that you have to buy your own ticket to Churwalden (do NOT buy a return ticket). For the way back you will need a ticket from Alvaneu (Gleis 7 can be used from Filisur).
Please don’t be fooled by the word “easy” hiking…you must be prepared to hike a few hours with proper hiking/walking shoes and a smile on your face.
Registration
The maximum number of participants allowed for this event is
30 (including organizers and helpers) and
the registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. If your
registration is not among the first 30, it will be put on
the waiting list.
