IAESTE Ireland Road Trip

October 15th - 20th, 2010

IAESTE LC Zurich are planning a trip to the Emerald Isle, taking in cosmopolitan Dublin, the rolling green hills and rugged landscape of the West and the culture and history of the Boyne Valley

Program

Friday October 15

  • 1540 flight from Zürich to Dublin
  • Pick up our VW bus and head for the city centre
  • Drop our bags off at the hostel and head out for dinner
  • Sample the electric atmosphere of the Dublin night life...
  • Have the Craic!

Saturday, October 16

  • Out of bed as early as our heads allow
  • Grab some breakfast... Irish breakfast anyone??
  • Hit the road, and enjoy the scenery on the road to Galway
  • Arrival in Galway mid afternoon, park up, drop our bags and stroll the old port City of Galway
  • Get some dinner and head out in the student buzz!

Sunday, October 17

  • Up and get breakfast
  • Hop in the bus and head for the wilderness... Connemara!
  • Hit the coast road and if the weather permits get the warm clothes on and tackle some "mountains" and also the famous Cliffs of Moher
  • Maybe go for a swim after in the tepid 10C Gulf Stream :)
  • Back to Galway city for a quiet (or wild) night out!

Monday, October 18

  • Start the journey back to dublin
  • Drop stuff at our accommodation
  • Get to St. James Gate, the home of Guinness and drink the best pint of Guinness in the world
  • See the sights, GPO, Trinity College, St. Stpehens Green etc

Tuesday, October 19

  • See a few more things in the city then make our way out to the Royal County, and Brians parents place.
  • From here we are within reach of the Hill of Tara, the seat of the ancient High Kings of Ireland and where St. Patrick started converting the pagan Irish to Christianity.
  • From here we will drive the Boyne Valley to Newgrange. The ancient Neolithic Hertiage site.
  • Continuing the drive along the Boyne to the coast, and a run on the 10km beach (another swim?)!
  • Back to Brians parents place for a traditional Irish dinner (Stew? Shepherds pie? fish?)
  • Out in the local town to see "small town" Ireland...
  • More guinness.........
  • Sleep at Brians....

Wednesday, October 20

  • leave Brians by 10am for the 25min journey to the airport. 
  • 1215 fly back to Switzerland
  • Slán abhaile

Costs

Robert, Jennifer and Brian are organising the transport and accommodation. Money owed will be paid directly to them. As the group is small this is not a problem.

 As a guide:

Night in hostel: ca €12

Dinner: ca €12 (depends where you go!!)

Transport total (inc fuel) ca €70 - €90 (this is actually cheaper compared to all the train/bus tickets)

Pint of Guinness: €3.80 - €4.50 

Various admission costs

 

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your registration you pay any costs which cannot be recovered.

Checklist - Remember to Bring

  • Cash for paying the participation fee - CHF
  • Passport
  • Visa if necessary
  • mixture of clothing...who knows what the weather will do (all 4 seasons in one day!)
  • Energy...LOTS OF IT!!

  • Zurich Flughafen, (Outside Migros) Friday 15th October at 1.30pm

Registration

The maximum number of participants allowed for this event is 9 (including organizers and helpers) and the registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. If your registration is not among the first 9, it will be put on the waiting list.
