IAESTE Caving Adventure

This ist like a voyage to the depth of earth. Forget space and time, immerse in the force of primeval nature and experience the tremendous dimension of the Hölloch, one of the largest cave system in the world. 

The Hölloch cave system is located in Muotatal, in the Canton of Schwyz (Switzerland). It is a karst cave, unfortunately withouth large stalactites and stalagmite but still impressive.

We will do the Hells hole parcours, an adventurous short trips (about 3.5 h) into a world first explored by the pioneers over a hundred years ago. A fascinating combination of knowledge and adventure. The parcour goes beyond the developed area into the labyrinth of caves. Exposed places are secured with ropes, ladders, bridges etc.

Program

  • Meet in Muotathal, Höllloch 9:39
  • Caving Adventure 9:45 (ca. 3.5h)
  • BBQing the caputred bats (that's a joke, there are none)
  • Eating picnic lunch
  • Going home

Participation fees

  • With SBB General Abonnement (GA): 60 CHF
  • With SBB half-fare (1/2) and Gleis 7: 60 CHF
  • With SBB half-fare (1/2) but no Gleis 7: 60 CHF
  • Without SBB half-fare (1/2): 60 CHF

If you do not yet have a SBB half-fare card, we recommend you buying one! Check the SBB website!

Guests are put on hold until Wednesday 6pm. A surcharge of 15 CHF will apply for participants who are not affiliated with IAESTE or its partner organisations.

The money will be collected on sunday morning on the train . Only cash is accepted! :-)

Included in the participation fee

  • Guided tour through the cave
  • Helmet, Lamp, rubber boots, gloves

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your registration
  • less than 12 hours before the start of the event (that is, 7 AM, Nov. 15), you pay the entire participation fee
  • 12-24 hours before the start of the event, you pay 75% of the participation fee
  • 24-48 hours before the start of the event, you pay 50% of the participation fee
  • 48-72 hours before the start of the event, you pay 25% of the participation fee

Checklist - Remember to Bring

  • Cash for paying the participation fee
  • Train ticket from your place to Muotathal, Hölloch and back.
  • What to wear: Old clothes which you don't mind if they get dirty: T-Shirt, thermal-shirt if available, think long-sleeved jumper, jacket or fleece jacket, overalls or old trousers, thick socks. Remember, you will get dirty.
  • For footwear, you will get rubber boots
  • Spare cloth which you can wear after the caving tour
  • Bags can be placed at the enterance, you don't have to carry everything with you
  • If you want, you can rent a caving overall for a surcharge of 20 CHF
  • Pick-nick lunch for after the caving trip

The temperature inside the cave is constant year round, at 6° Celsius. Again, dress accordingly.

 Some sort of physical condition is required.

Registration

The maximum number of participants allowed for this event is 27 (including organizers and helpers) and the registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. If your registration is not among the first 27, it will be put on the waiting list.
