Member Ski Weekend

This year's Member Ski Weekend will take place in the Berner Oberland. It's intended as an event for the members of the LC's Basel, Lausanne and Zurich and old friends of IAESTE in Switzerland.

Program

Saturday, March 29

  • Arrival in Lenk at around 10 a.m.
  • Depositing of the luggage in Mountain Hotel Wildstrubel
  • Skiing / Snowboarding (there's the possibility to organize a slalom race if people are interested)
  • Dinner at the hostel
  • Party in a bar nearby

Sunday, March 30

There are several possibilites for the activites on Sunday depending on the mood and the weather:
  • Skiing / Snowboarding
  • Airboarding (15.- / hour, every additional hour 10.-, including helmet and knee protectors). More information can be found on this site.
  • Snow shoe walking / hiking in the area (e.g. Simmen source and Simmen falls, Iffig falls, etc.).
  • Swimming (6.- entrance fee). For more information check this website.

Meeting point and train connection

We will meet at the meeting points approximately 15min before the train leaves directly on the track where the specified train will depart.

Note that Basel and Zurich are taking the same train from Spiez and we meet Lausanne on the train in Zweisimmen. For those who might be late and need to find the hotel themselves: map.search.ch

After leaving our luggage we go up to the mountains on the snow.

Participation fees

The price for the lodging will be around CHF 15.- per person for members (due to the contribution from the LC) and is CHF 45.- for trainees and guests. Included in the price is the accommodation, dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday morning.
Everybody has to buy their own train ticket including the skipass for 1 or 2 days, preferably at least one day in advance in order to avoid being late on Saturday. The prices for Snow-and-Rail tickets are as follows:

For the Lausanne members: There are some offers for Snow-and-Rail available from Bern for the price of CHF 66.- with and CHF 90.- without Halbtax for 1-day ski pass and for the second day the price is extra CHF 34.40. So try to calculate what would be the cheapest option for you.

If you do not yet have a SBB half-fare card, we recommend you buying one! Check the SBB website!

The money will be collected at the start of the weekend. Only cash is accepted! :-)

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your registration

  • less than 12 hours before the start of the event, you pay the entire participation fee
  • 12-24 hours before the start of the event, you pay 75% of the participation fee
  • 24-48 hours before the start of the event, you pay 50% of the participation fee
  • 48-72 hours before the start of the event, you pay 25% of the participation fee

Checklist - Remember to Bring

  • Skis / snowboard
  • warm clothes
  • Sleeping bag
  • skiing / snowboard pants, skiing gloves
  • hiking boots or equivalent for snow shoeing (snow shoe strap onto your regular footwear)
  • sun screen, sunglasses, winter hat, thick socks, lips protection
  • slippers, towel and all the necessary to be clean after a skiing day and to be ready for the night dinner and party
  • swim wear and towel

If you don't have skis/a snowboard, you should rent them in your home town before the weekend, since it takes time to do it.

Registration

The maximum number of participants allowed for this event is 30 (including organizers and helpers) and the registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. If your registration is not among the first 30, it will be put on the waiting list.
