According to the dispositions from the Federal Office for Migration (Weisungen 4.7.5 Praktikantinnen und Praktikanten unter 4 Aufenthalt mit Erwerbstätigkeit) requests for work and residence permits must be submitted by an exchange organisation like IAESTE for the following countries:
- Non-EU
- Bulgaria and Romania
- EU-8: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary

Please check if these conditions apply before asking IAESTE to request an authorisation.
After having read the conditions, please fill out the registration form and send completed documents to IAESTE by email or by post.
The process of the request takes between 6 and 8 weeks. Once the request has been approved, you will receive the "Ermächtigung zur Visumserteilung für die Schweizer Vertretung (EB)" (authorisation permitting the representation committee to issue the visa) for Non-EU citizens. Citizens of the EU-8 states and citizens of Bulgaria and Rumania receive the "Zusicherung der Aufenthaltsbewilligung" (assurance of a residence permit).
Please fax us a copy of the approval as soon as you receive it - since the authorities do not send IAESTE a copy at all times - and inform the student immediately.
